DACH engineering hire
Hire AI/ML engineers for DACH scale-ups — end-to-end ML, DSGVO-clean.
For Series A–C DACH scale-ups, the right first AI hire is rarely a deep-LLM specialist — it is the senior generalist who owns the whole AI surface from data to inference. We shortlist CEE generalists in 6 days, at 15% success fee, with Scheinselbstständigkeit and DSGVO posture handled.
Scheinselbstständigkeit handled
Two safe paths under §7 SGB IV — B2B from a foreign business or full EOR employment.
Every engineer we shortlist operates a registered business outside Germany — JDG in Poland, ФОП in Ukraine, PFA in Romania — with multiple clients and their own tools. §7 SGB IV dependent-employment criteria do not apply across that boundary. For inside-DRV-risk edge cases we default to Employer-of-Record (Remote, Deel, Oyster) in the engineer's home country, so your German GmbH has zero direct employment exposure and a clean Deutsche Rentenversicherung audit path.
DSGVO & EU AI Act compliant by design
Human-in-the-loop is the default, not a retrofit.
Every shortlist is reviewed and signed off by a human recruiter before delivery. We sign a Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag (AVV / DPA) with every engagement, candidate data sits in EU regions (Frankfurt, Dublin), candidates are notified up-front that AI is used, logs are retained for 5 years, and quarterly bias audits run by default. Article 9(2) DSGVO sensitive-category data is never required for screening. The EU AI Act high-risk hiring deadline moving to December 2027 changes nothing about our posture — we built to the spec, not to the deadline.
25–30% Personalberatung → 15% success fee
A senior CEE AI/ML generalist saves you €25–35K vs DACH-local hiring, every year of the engagement.
Berlin/Munich senior AI/ML engineer market median is €100–130K base. Personalberatung charges 25% on placement — €25–32.5K per hire. Recruo charges 15% success fee, and our CEE-sourced candidates come in at €58–80K total-comp-equivalent. Fee delta saves €10K year-1; total-comp delta saves €28–50K each year afterwards.

Worked example
What a placement actually costs
Worked example, senior AI/ML generalist into a Berlin Series A climate-tech (placed 2026-Q1). Target: Berlin-local €105K + 22% employer side = €128K/yr fully loaded. Actual: CEE senior at €70K B2B from Romania. Recruo fee: €10.5K. Personalberatung alternative: 25% of €105K = €26.25K. Year-1 client delta: (€128K + €26.25K) − (€70K + €10.5K) = €73.75K saved. Year-2-onwards delta ~€58K/yr.
DACH-specific hiring context
Why a generalist is often the right first DACH AI hire
DACH Series A and early Series B teams almost always hire one full-stack AI/ML engineer before they hire any specialist. The correct call: at <30 engineers total, the AI surface is small enough that a senior generalist with 18–30 months production LLM work plus 3–5 years classical ML covers every shipping-priority. They will not win a vLLM-optimisation deep-dive against a dedicated LLM engineer, but they will ship a perfectly correct LLM-backed feature, choose the right model for the cost/latency profile, and know exactly when to call in a specialist.
Where the generalist genuinely struggles is deep serving-side work above 50M+ monthly LLM requests. Once you cross that threshold, hire a dedicated LLM engineer or an ML platform engineer. Below that — generalist wins on ROI by every honest measure.
DACH labour-law context tilts the calculation further toward generalists. A senior hire with breadth covers two open roles you cannot afford to staff in parallel under typical DACH hiring constraints. Probezeit risk is reduced: a generalist hired on B2B with a clear scope is much harder to deliver poorly against than a deep specialist hired before the technical surface is understood.
Scheinselbstständigkeit posture for generalist B2B placements is identical to specialist placements: §7 SGB IV criteria fail when applied to a registered CEE business with multiple clients and own tools. AÜG does not apply to cross-border. For tighter compliance, EOR routes the engineer through their home country payroll. See our DACH recruitment agency parent page for both options.
CEE generalists ship code that meets the DACH engineering bar by default — documentation-first, ADR-driven, code-review-rigorous. The 80th-percentile candidate has shipped LLM-backed features at three different companies plus a classical ML pipeline still serving production traffic. That breadth is exactly what a Series A DACH team needs in their first AI hire.

Work-authorisation patterns
- • Polish, Romanian, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian, Hungarian engineers: full intra-EU work rights, B2B or EOR.
- • Ukrainian engineers: §24 AufenthG temporary protection through March 2027.
- • Full DACH employment via EOR (Remote, Deel, Oyster) at 11–15% overhead.
- • Blue Card EU for non-EU, non-Ukraine candidates: only for Head/VP roles.
Seniority mix
DACH AI/ML-generalist placements: 25% mid, 58% senior, 17% staff/lead. Berlin Series A and Munich Series B teams pull mid-to-senior generalists most heavily.
